KUCHING, Sept 5 — Approximately 5,000 people are expected to gather at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) for the Malaysia Day celebration on September 16.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the guest of honour for the event will be Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are also expected to attend the official ceremony, scheduled to begin at 8.15 pm.

“Among the highlights of the evening are addresses by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Abang Johari and Anwar.

“There will also be a signing ceremony for the Malaysia Day Special Book and recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge,” he told reporters after chairing the Malaysia Day 2026 Main Committee meeting here today.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who is this year’s Malaysia Day celebration co-chairman, will attend the meeting online.

The Malaysia Day celebration will feature performances by a line-up of invited artistes, a theatrical musical, and a grand finale involving Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, an exhibition in conjunction with the 2026 national-level Malaysia Day celebrations will be held from Sept 10 to 16 at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching.

In addition, two thanksgiving ceremonies have been planned, one for Muslims on Sept 15 at Masjid Jamek and another for other religions on Sept 14 at Pullman Hotel, both in Kuching. — Bernama
