Dangerously low? Airlink performs daring DHL Stadium flyover

Airlink performed not one, but two impressive low-altitude flyovers at the DHL Stadium, where the Springboks took on the All Blacks.

The rivals played their second match in their Greatest Rivalry series, with South Africa beating New Zealand 33-26.

AIRLINK DOES DARING DHL STADIUM FLYOVER

As they did last week at Ellis Park, Airlink performed two daring flyovers at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town, where the Springboks beat the All Blacks.

The daring stunt involved two Embraer E190 jets: a green-liveried one representing the Springboks and a black-liveried one representing the All Blacks.

The aircraft circled Robben Island before heading out to the stadium, where fireworks went off as the planes flew over the pitch.

In images and video clips posted on social media, the aircraft appeared to fly just metres above the roof structure of the DHL Stadium.

While many were captivated by the impressive stunt, others called the flyover “dangerously low”, with “no room for error”.

FLYOVERS IN CAPE TOWN

Airlink was tasked with conducting a flyover of DHL Stadium, as it is the official domestic airline of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry 2026 series.

In 2024, FlySafair performed the first DHL Stadium flyover when a Boeing 737-800 flew over before the Springboks–All Blacks match.

Last June, a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 performed a flyover before the Springboks–Barbarians match.
