Ifugao road reopens to 4×4 vehicles after soil collapse

BAGUIO CITY — A section of the Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Hapao, Hungduan, Ifugao, earlier declared impassable due to a soil collapse, has reopened to four-wheel-drive vehicles, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) said on Monday.

The affected section is at K0359+800. DPWH-CAR said its personnel remain on site and clearing operations are continuing.

According to the DPWH-CAR, the road was among five Cordillera road sections listed as impassable in the latest road and travel advisory.

The other affected sections were the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Road and PMA Cut-Off Road No. 3 in Baguio City, both affected by road sinking; the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road in Barangay Beckel, La Trinidad, due to a road cut; and the Baguio-Itogon Road at Sitio Goldfield, Barangay Poblacion, Itogon, due to a landslide.

For the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road, motorists may use Marlboro-Beckel Road and Labey-Lacamen Road as alternate routes. Ucab-Midas Road serves as the alternate route for the affected section of the Baguio-Itogon Road.

Kennon Road remains open to light vehicles with a maximum load of five tons. The Acrow Bridge at Sitio Camp 2 in Barangay Twin Peaks, Tuba, remains impassable, while its detour is limited to one lane.

The Rockshed Approach at Camp 6 and another section in Camp 6 are also limited to one lane, with the latter affected by falling rocks.

DPWH-CAR said it continues to conduct clearing operations to keep roads passable and safe for motorists. /coa
