Mathis Landwehr-led martial arts feature “Lion Fist” has been picked up for South Korea, Latin America and the CIS.

Fellow Landwehr starrer “The Last Kumite” has also found a South Korean home, sales outfit Cappu Films revealed at the Tokyo International Film Festival‘s TIFFCOM market.

Studio DHL has taken South Korean rights to both films. Great Movies picked up “Lion Fist” for Latin America, and Kinologistika LLC bought the title for the CIS.

Taim M. Adams directed “Lion Fist,” which casts Landwehr as Joe, a fighter who walks out of prison and learns his son needs surgery to survive. To pay for it, Joe signs up for a vicious martial arts competition carrying a $100,000 purse. Gary Daniels, Kurt McKinney, Keith Cooke and Brice Akuesson round out the cast.

Sean David Lowe and Keith W. Strandberg wrote the screenplay, and Mike Möller choreographed the fights. Lowe produced the film with Wayne Graves, and the pair hold the same credit on “The Last Kumite.”

“These deals give the films a wider international audience, and we look forward to meeting buyers for the remaining territories in Tokyo,” said Janice Woo of Cappu Films.

Ross W. Clarkson directed “The Last Kumite,” in which a fighter is forced into a lethal tournament to save his abducted daughter. Landwehr again tops the cast, joined by Cynthia Rothrock, Billy Blanks, Matthias Hues and McKinney.

“Both movies bring a nostalgic style of martial arts movies back to the screen. Already selling to many countries in the world, we trust in Cappu Films to find the right partners for new territories,” said Lowe.

Beyond the two fight films, Cappu Films is handling French action title “Red Bird,” Carter Ward’s “Step Back,” “Doors Closing” and Francesco Lucente’s fantasy “Starbright.” The company’s library spans action, horror, fantasy and arthouse fare, along with Hong Kong Golden Era titles and TV series.
