Loke's resignation to take effect when Najib returns home

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with his resignation to take effect when former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak returns home.

Loke said he met Anwar yesterday, during which the prime minister asked him to remain in the cabinet for the time being.

"During the discussion, he asked me to continue carrying out my duties for the time being.

"He would make the decision, but I said there also needed to be a timeframe.

"So, the timeframe is that my resignation will take effect on the day Najib returns home," he said at a press conference after officiating the 2026 Malaysia Maritime Week here today.

Loke had previously said he would resign from the cabinet following the Pardons Board's decision to reduce Najib's prison sentence and fine, as well as allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
