‘Ear Hustle’ Podcast Gets Documentary From Executive Producer Morgan Freeman (EXCLUSIVE)

“Ear Hustle,” the first podcast produced entirely inside a prison, is getting a documentary feature from filmmaker Erika Cohn and executive producers Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary.

“Ear Hustle” was launched in 2017 by Bay Area visual artist Nigel Poor with Earlonne Woods and Antwan Williams, who were both incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison at the time. The doc, according to an official logline, follows “Poor, Woods and Williams as they travel to prisons around the world, bringing ‘Ear Hustle’ back inside while navigating how far the project has traveled from where it began. Through their journey, the film explores how ‘Ear Hustle’ — named one of the 100 best podcasts of all time by IME — has changed the way stories about incarceration are told and how its extraordinary evolution has transformed the lives of the people who created it.”

“Nigel, Earlonne and Antwan have an extraordinary ability to find humor, intimacy and complexity in places audiences are rarely invited to see,” Cohn said. “For me, the film is an opportunity to turn the lens on the storytellers themselves, to explore the movement their work has inspired and how creating ‘Ear Hustle’ has impacted their own lives. As someone who has also been profoundly shaped by the stories I tell, I feel a deep connection to that journey.”

Freeman and McCreary, under her Revelations Entertainment banner, serve as executive producers alongside James Younger, Insiyah Haveliwala and Patty Quillin. Cohn serves as producer with Jaz Kealoha Berger and Rajal Pitroda.
