KKIA runway reopens after rectification works

KOTA KINABALU: Flight operations at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) can resume after the airport's runway was reopened at 11.30pm yeserday following final safety checks, Malaysia Airports said.

In an update on its official Facebook page, Malaysia Airports said flight operations could resume following the reopening.

Malaysia Airports also advised passengers travelling to and from KKIA to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status updates.

The runway had been temporarily closed since 2.45pm to facilitate rectification works, affecting at least 20 arrival and departure flights.

Checks by Bernama at the airport earlier found that several flights were delayed or cancelled, while several incoming services were diverted to Labuan and Sandakan.

The disruption left some passengers waiting for several hours for updates, with many repeatedly checking flight information displays and airline notifications for revised departure and arrival times.– BERNAMA
