Manchester United send new update after double injury scare adds to Michael Carrick woes

The versatile 21-year-old started on the left-hand side of attack for the Danes, alongside former United team-mate Rasmus Hojlund, but suffered a non-contact hamstring injury in the first half and limped off after only 30 minutes.

United now face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the problem, with Dorgu having made six appearances for the club so far this season.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer said after the game: “He's suffered an injury and has to go home. We'll have to call up a replacement.”

United have now confirmed that Dorgu will be heading back to the club.

There will be no early return to United for Fernandes, despite the influential captain having missed Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway in Oslo on Sunday night.

Portugal boss Jorge Jesus said Fernandes had a “complicated problem” that forced him off during Thursday’s 1-0 home defeat of Wales, claiming that he had been playing through the pain barrier for United in recent weeks.

However, he hopes that he will be fit for Thursday’s trip to Denmark, which is followed by another meeting with Norway on Sunday.

“In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem,” said Jesus.

“He said he’s been dealing with that pain for about three games, and that was one of the factors that prevented him from being at his usual level against Wales.

“He was my player, I know him perfectly. I’ve already spoken to him. I prefer not to risk him in this game and have him clean and in good physical condition for the Denmark game.”

United will be hoping that neither injury is anything serious as they battle to turn around a disappointing start to Michael Carrick’s first season in charge as permanent manager that has already piled on the pressure.

Matthijs de Ligt has yet to return from a long-term back injury, while Karl Darlow was among the withdrawals from Craig Bellamy’s latest Wales squad.

United - who won only one of their first five games of the Premier League campaign - return to action after the extended three-week international break with a home clash against fellow strugglers Tottenham on October 10, part of a tricky run next month that also includes meetings with Atletico Madrid, Leeds, Como, Bournemouth and Chelsea.
