Lim Guan Eng hits PAS over failure to credit him for cutting lottery draws from 22 to eight a year

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng has hit back at PAS over what he described as dishonest and hypocritical claims about DAP’s position on Islam, while pointing to his record of reducing special lottery draws when he was finance minister.

In a Facebook post, Lim said PAS had failed to acknowledge that he was the first finance minister to reduce the number of special lottery draws from 22 to eight a year when Pakatan Harapan (PH) was in government from 2018 to 2020.

“PAS is not honest and sincere when it fails to state that I was the first finance minister to reduce special lottery draws from 22 times to eight times a year during the PH government from 2018 to 2020,” he said.

Lim said the number of special draws was subsequently increased to 22 a year by the PAS, Umno, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition government in 2020 and remained at that level until the BN/PN administration ended in late 2022.

He said PAS did not have to praise him for the policy, but questioned its repeated claims that DAP leaders were opposed to Islam.

“Not praising me is fine, but the question is why does PAS like to slander DAP leaders as being against Islam when DAP is only opposed to PAS and their politics of hatred and lies,” he said.

Lim said it was up to the public to decide whether PAS’ approach amounted to hypocrisy and violated its own principles.

“It is up to the people to determine whether PAS’ two-faced political game violates principles and is hypocritical,” he said.
