Will Dana White Accept Donald Trump’s Latest Job Offer? UFC Boss Faces A Surprising Career Decision

Translate

Is Dana White on his way to Washington? The UFC chief confirmed he will meet President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday to talk about an offer to become the next White House press secretary. Trump made the pitch public on Saturday through Truth Social, asking White to bring along six fighters as assistants. White was in London for a boxing event when he spoke to reporters. He gave no answer on the job itself. One report says he already turned the idea down. Another says Trump may have been joking.

Dana White Heads To The Oval Office For Monday Talks With Donald Trump

Dana White gave little away at the London press conference. He deflected a question about the offer and said only that he would fly to Washington to meet Trump on Monday. The UFC boss had been in the city for a boxing card. A CNN source revealed that the UFC boss has rejected the surprising job offer.

Trump's post was blunt. “I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” he wrote on Truth Social.

He then named six fighters he wanted as assistants: Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, “Kayla Harris” and Amanda Nunes. Harris is likely a reference to Kayla Harrison.

“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” Trump added. “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

Communications director Steven Cheung worked for the UFC from 2013 to 2016. He reposted the message with a push for White to say yes.

A Press Office In Flux After The Midterms

The job has been open since Katie Zacharia was fired after one rocky briefing. Her five days made it the shortest stint in the role's history. Karoline Leavitt left in August after a year and a half and has since joined Fox News as a contributor.

Pressure is building. Democrats won both chambers of Congress on Tuesday and have pledged to investigate the administration. Trump also ousted chief of staff Susie Wiles on Friday and named Stephen Miller to take over Monday. “I'll be doing maybe a few changes,” he told CBS News.

White brings real history to the table. The two first worked together in the early 2000s, when Trump's Taj Mahal casino hosted UFC events. White backed Trump's 2016 run and has spoken at the last three Republican National Conventions. “He introduced me to people I never heard of, young kids,” Trump said of White earlier this year.

Yet young men drifted toward Democrats in the midterms, even after the UFC card Trump hosted on the White House lawn this summer.
