Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura, a witness presented by the House prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, said he did not eat his lunch during the break because he was “nervous.”
Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis Escudero raised the matter when he returned to the podium and resumed the trial at 1:01 p.m. on Monday after an hour of lunch break.
“Hindi ka daw kumain (you didn’t eat) Atty. Ronel?” Escudero asked.
Buenaventura answered, smiling, “Hindi po, Your Honor… Hindi po makakain, Your Honor.”
(I didn’t, Your Honor… I couldn’t eat, Your Honor.)
Asked why, Buenaventura said, “Kinakabahan po (I’m nervous), Your Honor.”
On the 33rd day of the impeachment trial, the Senate impeachment court allowed Buenaventura to testify on the bank transactions of the Vice President and her husband, Manases Carpio.
Escudero said that existing provisions in laws on the confidentiality of bank transactions are not absolute because AMLC is not a passive institution to begin with.
