Between Hannah Asher giving birth to her baby with Dean Archer, Caitlin Lenox admitting her diagnosis to Mitch Ripley, and Sharon Goodwin facing a battle to save her career, the show presented several cliffhangers. Now, fans are learning more about what to expect from Chicago Med season 12 when it premieres.

As part of a fall TV preview, TVLine has reported several new details about how storylines have already progressed offscreen by the time Chicago Med returns. Most notably, the report revealed that there will be a three-month storyline time jump between seasons. That time jump will allow Hannah and Dean's complicated relationship to evolve offscreen, while still being at a standstill in a key way.

While speaking to the outlet for its fall preview, Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald stated that Hannah and Dean are "still very much trying to figure out" their relationship. Importantly, the report noted that by the time of the premiere, Hannah will not have told Dean that she loves him even though they are living together to raise their daughter Mabel. Simultaneously, she will be coping with feelings of isolation as her maternity leave continues and Dean has gone back to work. Perhaps that is why the preview states that she will visit the ED early on.

Another major storyline spoiler that the fall preview contained is the news that a popular Chicago Med character won't be appearing in the first five episodes of the upcoming season. According to the report, Dr. Caitlin Lenox will be absent from the first five episodes when the show returns. The news comes after the actor who brought her to life, Sarah Ramos, announced she is pregnant in May 2026.
