House Of The Dragon's Meleys Officially Returns In Game Of Thrones: The Red Queen

House of the Dragon has already made several substantial changes to George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, but few moments proved as emotional as the deaths of Rhaenys Targaryen and Meleys at Rook's Rest. Unlike other more controversial moments from the series, their fates remain broadly faithful to the book, where Rhaenys flies into a trap and Meleys battles Sunfyre and Vhagar before all three dragons crash toward the ground, leaving the Red Queen dead and Rhaenys' burned body nearby.

That said, the HBO series dramatically reworked that confrontation, giving Meleys a longer fight against Vhagar before the enormous dragon ultimately kills her with a surprise attack. That version left fans divided, with many praising the heartbreaking final exchange between Rhaenys and Meleys and Eve Best's performance, while others argued that Vhagar's ambush robbed the pair of the more direct, brutal ending described in Fire & Blood.

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is bringing one of House of the Dragon's most iconic dragons into the game, with Meleys officially joining the roster as part of The Dragon’s Divide. Nicknamed The Red Queen, Meleys leans heavily into speed, positioning her as an aggressive Physical attacker designed to disrupt other fast-moving dragons.

Meleys, the splendid Red Queen, is a marvel of scarlet scales and copper-bright horns, a dragon whose beauty is matched only by her ferocity. Once ridden by Princess Alyssa Targaryen and later by Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, she is famed as one of the swiftest dragons ever to take wing, able to outpace even mightier beasts through sheer grace and speed. In the sky, Meleys is not merely fast—she is regal, exacting, and terrifyingly difficult to answer once she has chosen her prey.

According to Warner Bros. Games, Meleys can only be claimed by entering The Dragon's Divide campaign, making participation in the new season/reign essential for acquiring her. Dragonfire structures its ongoing content around roughly eight-week Reigns, with campaigns providing the story, objectives, and rewards associated with each season. The Dragon's Divide is currently one of three campaigns in the game alongside Heirs of the Dragon and Shadow of the Greens.

Meleys' central mechanic is Laceration, a debuff that stacks and reduces an enemy dragon's Initiative. Her Scarlet Strike command targets the opponent with the highest Initiative on odd-numbered rounds, dealing Physical Damage and applying Laceration. Royal Rend can then make those attacks even more dangerous, potentially applying Vulnerable against bleeding enemies or increasing the Physical Damage they receive.

Her other abilities include Nimble Resilience, which reduces incoming damage while improving Meleys' Initiative, while Queen's Vengeance can apply Reflect and send some Basic Attack damage back toward attackers. Brisk Might boosts the Strength and Initiative of an allied dragon, and The Red Queen skill triggers on rounds three, six, and nine, dealing Physical Damage to three enemies while potentially adding more Laceration stacks.

With very high Strength and Initiative alongside a very fast March Speed, Meleys looks designed to seize control of battles early and punish opposing teams built around speed.

The Dragon's Divide and Meleys The Red Queen will be available starting September 24 in Game of Thrones: Dragonfire.
