SINGAPORE, Sept 5 — Veteran Singapore rapper and businessman Sheikh Haikel has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and is undergoing treatment after surgery.
The 50-year-old entertainer, a familiar figure in Singapore’s Malay entertainment scene, revealed his diagnosis in an Instagram video yesterday saying he had kept his condition private after friends noticed he had lost weight.
“With the heaviest of hearts, I would like to say and tell everyone who is watching this that I have fourth-stage cancer,” he said, fighting back tears.
Haikel said he had told friends he was fine despite not feeling well, and apologised to his wife for having asked her to keep his condition private.
“I haven’t been feeling good recently, and I don’t want something to happen and me not telling everybody,” he said.
Anna Belle, 48, a former actress and host who is now an entrepreneur, told Malay-language daily Berita Harian that the tumour was aggressive and that Haikel was undergoing treatment.
Despite his diagnosis, Haikel whose full name is Sheikh Haikel Sheikh Salim Bajrai, said he intends to continue working, including his involvement in their halal restaurant business, Hai Ge Ji.
He will also launch a podcast, Final Applause, where he plans to speak openly about his experience with cancer and treatment.
Haikel and Anna Belle, who have three children, said they hoped sharing his story would encourage more meaningful conversations and offer support to others facing similar experiences.
