Pokémon's 30th anniversary has already given us some spectacular releases this year, with the 30th Celebration expansion standing out as one of the biggest highlights. Launched in September, the special set has given collectors a wealth of fresh art and new powerful alt cards, reimagining iconic Gen 1 Pokémon alongside fan favorites from later generations. Its 30 different Pikachu cards, stunning day-and-night illustrations, and striking Future rares have made the expansion a fitting tribute to the franchise's three-decade history.
For collectors, however, the initial wave of booster packs and special boxes was only the beginning. The Pokémon Company has continued expanding its anniversary lineup with additional releases celebrating some of the franchise's most recognizable Mon, with even more surprises planned for the remainder of 2026.
November will bring another exciting addition, this time spotlighting two of the most iconic Pokémon from Gen 1. With a shared history stretching back to the earliest days of the franchise, the pair are receiving stunning new designs in a special anniversary release arriving next month.
Pokémon's next major anniversary release is officially arriving on November 6, with the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Figure Collection introducing two stunning new designs for Mew and Mewtwo. The special release features separate collector's boxes for each Pokémon, priced at $29.99 apiece in the US, combining exclusive collectibles with trading cards from the anniversary expansion.
The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the newly designed figures themselves, which offer different interpretations of two of Gen 1's most iconic Pokémon. Mew's design takes a whimsical approach, depicting the Mythical Pokémon floating above a colorful bed of flowers, with its signature long tail curling overhead. The figure was sculpted by Japanese artist Taro Murai, whose previous work includes collectibles based on Hatsune Miku and Mechagodzilla.
Mewtwo, meanwhile, gets an expected foreboding new design, surrounded by jagged, dark crystals. The figure was sculpted by Daichi F Sugimoto, a Tokyo-based artist whose credits include work connected to Pokémon Champions and Silent Hill f. Both figures are produced by renowned Japanese collectibles manufacturer Kaiyodo, which has an extensive history of creating detailed sculptures based on popular characters.
According to The Pokémon Company's official product listing, each 30th Celebration Figure Collection includes:
- 1 exclusive foil promo card featuring Mew or Mewtwo
- 1 oversized foil card featuring Mew or Mewtwo
- 1 sculpted figure featuring the corresponding Pokémon
- 5 Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration booster packs
Importantly, the Mew and Mewtwo editions are sold separately, meaning collectors hoping to own both designs will need to purchase two boxes.
The included booster packs will be highly sought after, particularly for collectors still working toward completing the anniversary expansion, which has been complicated by pesky scalpers despite retailers taking steps to prevent the issue. Each pack contains five foil cards and one foil Basic Energy card, including one of 30 different Pikachu cards created specifically for the anniversary celebration.
Unfortunately, securing either collection at its $29.99 retail price could prove challenging beyond in-person scalping. Preorder availability has been limited, with third-party resellers already listing the sets at significantly inflated prices ahead of launch. Collectors should also pay close attention to retailer listings, as some stores, including Best Buy, are selling the collections with randomly selected designs, meaning buyers aren't necessarily guaranteed their preferred Pokémon.
Given Mew and Mewtwo's enduring popularity, these new figures could become two of the most sought-after collectibles in the entire anniversary lineup. For longtime fans who grew up with the original Pokémon generation, the opportunity to display the two legendary Kanto icons together is certainly tempting, especially with such strikingly different designs.
