Prince Harry spotted in low-key appearance at market town’s Remembrance Sunday memorial service

Translate

Prince Harry was spotted quietly attending a Remembrance Sunday service in a market town thought to be close to where he and his wife Meghan Makle now live.

While the King led the nation in a two-minute silence at the Cenotaph, his youngest son attended a service in Brackley, Northamptonshire, where he stood in the crowds wearing his medals and a poppy, according to reports.

The Duke of Sussex served a decade in the army and rose to the rank of Captain, undertaking two tours of Afghanistan.

Pictures published in The Sun and The Mail showed the prince shaking hands with residents at the town service in Northamptonshire, a 45-minute drive away from the Cotswolds, where he is believed to be living with his wife.

Harry’s appearance in Brackley marked his first Remembrance Day back in the UK since he moved in August with his family. Every year, members of the Royal Family join politicians, veterans and members of the public at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, to remember those who have died in combat.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a strained relationship with the Royal Family since they gave up their role as working royals in 2020 and moved to the United States.

While the King is understood to have welcomed their return, Buckingham Palace released a statement in September reiterating that they would still not be considered working royals.

Prince Harry is still believed to be estranged from his brother Prince William.

As Charles took centre stage and laid the first wreath at the Cenotaph in recognition of the fallen from conflicts dating back to the First World War, he was followed by the Prince of Wales.

The King saluted as he stepped back from the monument in Whitehall after leading the nation in a two-minute silence, wearing a field marshal uniform complete with a greatcoat, cap and sword.

His son William, wearing the uniform of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Household Cavalry with black cloak and sword, also saluted after laying his wreath.

William, who in 2013 completed seven-and-a-half years of full-time operational military service, has promoted the roles and welfare of current and former service personnel as a key part of his work.

The prince was followed by wreaths being laid by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.

Prime minister Andy Burnham also laid a wreath, along with senior politicians including Kemi Badenoch, Sir Ed Davey, Nigel Farage, Shabana Mahmood and Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
