Emmerdale - why has Sadie King lied about Jimmy's shocking double life?

Sadie King's sudden arrival to Emmerdale following her ex-husband Jimmy's tragic death has certainly raised suspicion in the village.

While claiming she was there to pay respects to Jimmy and his widow Nicola, she complicated things even further by revealing that she and Jimmy had been living together for three years, even presenting Nicola photos of the two together.

But things aren't what they seem to be as it was revealed that the images were edited, and given her general behaviour, it is clear that Sadie has an alter motive for lying about Jimmy's supposed double life.

In tonight's episode (10 September), it seemed as though Sadie's house of cards had come tumbling down as an unexpected resident cottoned on to her deception.

It all started when Sadie gave Nicola what she believed to be a Rolex watch to give to Elliot as the two met to discuss funeral arrangements. She then stopped to chat with Caleb Milligan to ask him if he had any idea where Jimmy had stashed the money he'd earned from selling his haulage company.

Caleb didn't have any answers but added that he'd keep an ear out, to which Sadie said she was "grateful". But unbeknownst to them, Robert Sugden was listening in on the conversation and offered to meet up with Sadie later, telling her it would be "worth her while".

When the ex-lovers finally met up, Robert revealed his suspicion that Sadie was lying about everything. He pointed out that the watch, which she'd claimed was given to her by Jimmy, was fake, and also highlighted her numerous affairs, including with him. He also noted how Nicola had paid for lunch instead of Sadie, adding that he'd heard about her credit card declining at the bistro.

Robert concluded that Sadie is penniless and is hoping to get her hands on Jimmy's money before Nicola does.

Though Sadie initially brushed off his claims, she revealed that his threats to tell Nicola of her scheme have no hold on her as she doesn't have any money to give him.

Robert threw a curveball by offering to help her find the money - though only if she cut him half. Sadie agreed and the two shook hands, sealing their deal.

As for how Sadie and Robert will work together, later episodes suggest that Sadie will manipulate a grieving Nicola for her house keys to allow Robert to stage a burglary. Though given the two's tumultuous history, how long will this alliance last?
