Gael Monfils celebrated his 40th birthday in a big way, defeating Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 at the US Open on Tuesday night in what will be his final Grand Slam tournament before retirement.

Monfils became the oldest man to win a US Open match since Jimmy Connors defeated Jaime Oncins on his 40th birthday in 1992.

This marks Monfils' 22nd consecutive season winning at least one major match, tying Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer for the longest streak among men in the Open era.

Monfils' last 6-0 bagel set won in a Slam came at the 2022 Australian Open, in the second round against Alexander Bublik.

The Frenchman, who received a wild card for the tournament, will face American No. 14 seed Learner Tien in the next round. Tien won their only career head-to-head matchup earlier this year at Montreal, which was also on hardcourt
