Recently crowned US Open champion Elena Rybakina has been ruled out of the Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) finals due to an achilles tendon injury she sustained at the Cincinnati Open, the Kazakh Tennis Federation (KTF) announced on Friday.
Rybakina had retired from her quarterfinal clash against Iga Swiatek at Cincinatti, and will need atleast two weeks to recover from the injury, the federation further said.
At the US Open, the federation revealed that Rybakina had played through pain and used painkillers in the final stages of the tournament.
The BJKC Finals is an eight-team event which is set to take place in Shenzen, China from September 22 to 27. Along with Kazakhstan, the other participating nations are Italy (defending champion), Spain, Belgium, Ukraine, Great Britain, Czechia, and China.
