Prove you’ve delivered 97% of manifesto promises, Adly tells BN

Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Adly Zahari has challenged Barisan Nasional (BN) to provide detailed evidence to support its claim that it has fulfilled 97% of its promises in the 2021 state election manifesto.

The challenge comes after Melaka BN chairman and chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said yesterday that the state government had fulfilled 97% of its manifesto pledges from the previous election, based on a review covering 2021 to 2026.

Adly said BN should publish a comprehensive list of its achievements, allowing voters to assess the status of the 103 initiatives outlined under five main thrusts.

“(Rauf’s) claims should be accompanied by a complete list… so voters can make their own assessment,” he told a press conference at PH’s operations room in Bukit Baru.

Adly, who is defending the Bukit Katil seat in the Nov 14 polls, said transparency in reporting manifesto achievements was important to ensure government commitments could be assessed based on actual implementation rather than percentage figures alone.

He also cited the Auditor-General’s Report, which showed that Melaka recorded a deficit in 2024, with a revenue of RM490 million against an expenditure of RM519 million.

He said the figures highlighted the need for prudent financial management and proper documentation of government spending to ensure that expenditure produced verifiable results.

“Sometimes we may be able to increase revenue, but expenditure management must also be given priority,” he said, adding that Melaka recorded a financial surplus of RM50 million in 2019 when he led the state government.

The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, with early voting scheduled for Nov 10.
