Pagasa sees improving weather on Thursday as Neneng, habagat weaken

MANILA, Philippines — Generally improving weather conditions are forecast on Thursday as Tropical Depression Neneng and the southwest monsoon or habagat are expected to weaken, according to the state weather bureau.
In the 5 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, weather specialist Leanne Loreto said that Neneng was last estimated 390 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 a.m. It was carrying a maximum wind speed of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Loreto noted that Neneng may make landfall within the northern portion of Taiwan within 12 hours and will weaken into a low pressure area.

“Kasabay ng paghina nitong bagyong Neneng ang paghina rin nitong hinihila nyang habagat. So by today po, inaasahan nating generally mag-iimprove yung ating weather conditions (Tropical Depression Neneng and the southwest monsoon it enhances will weaken. So today, we expect generally improving weather conditions),” Loreto said.
She then said that fewer areas will experience significant amount of rainfall (50 to 100 millimeters) within 24 hours, such as Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
“Other parts ng Luzon, maaaring makaranas pa rin ng maulap na panahon although sa ngayon ay ineexpect na magkakaroon ng breaks sa maulap na panahon at maaaring masilayan na muli ang haring araw, especially sa eastern side ng Luzon (Other parts of Luzon may experience heavy rains although we expect breaks from cloudy skies and we will see the sun, especially on the eastern side of Luzon),” Loreto added.
She also said that no gale warning is raised in any seaboards of the country.

Meanwhile, she shared that the habagat and Neneng are expected to weaken by Friday to Saturday. With this, she said that improving weather conditions may prevail in a huge portion of Luzon.
However, she said that there are still chances of cloudy skies, especially over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. /mr
