Tesco meal deal item recalled over possible E.coli contamination

Tesco have urgently recalled a popular meal deal item over concerns of food poisoning.

The supermarket has issued a warning for their Finest Mozzarella Pearls and Pesto Orzo salad, over the risk it may have been contaminated with E.coli.

The side effects include severe diarrhoea with or without blood in the stool, abdominal pain, vomiting, dehydration and sometimes haemolytic uremic syndrome, (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

Tesco have warned that if anyone presents any of these symptoms, they should isolate away from work, school or nurseries for two days.

The 215g packet has the use by dates of 25, 26 and 27 August.

Anyone who has purchased the product should return to the store for a refund, with no receipt required.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. For further information, please visit Tesco's customer services at: tesco.com/help/contact."

Tesco has issued its own alert, which will also be displayed in its stores. It said: "We’re recalling three date codes of Tesco Finest Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Orzo Salad 215g. This is due to the possible presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), which can cause illness if eaten.

"No other products sold at Tesco are affected by this recall."

On Tuesday, the chilled and frozen food specialist Summit Foods recalled various filled wraps over potential Shiga toxin-producing E.coli contamination.

This included individual packs of Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wraps, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap with dates up to and including the 5 September 2026.
