Chelsea break summer transfer sales record after £125m Enzo Fernández Exit

Translate

Chelsea Football Club has broken its record for player sales in a single summer transfer window after completing another extraordinary period of squad restructuring.

How much did Chelsea make from player sales in the 2026 summer transfer window?

The Blues have generated around £500 million through player sales and loans, with the departure of several first-team players helping the club achieve a new high.

The biggest deal came on Deadline Day, when Enzo Fernández completed his move to Manchester City for £125 million. The transfer matches the British record fee and makes Fernández one of the most expensive players in Premier League history.

Chelsea's record-breaking sales have been driven by a long list of departures, including Marc Guiu, Dário Essugo, Robert Sánchez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo, among others. The club's ability to generate significant income from player trading has once again become a major feature of its transfer strategy.

However, the record sales have also left Chelsea with an important problem which was the inability to replace Fernández. The Argentine's departure came without the club securing a direct replacement in midfield, while their attempts to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco collapsed late in the window.

The situation highlights the fine balance Chelsea are trying to maintain: generating huge revenue from player sales while ensuring that the squad remains competitive. With the summer window now closed, manager Xabi Alonso will have to work with the squad available to him and find a way to compensate for the loss of one of the team's key midfielders.

However, despite the disappointment of failing to replace Fernández, Chelsea's record-breaking sales underline how aggressively the club continues to reshape its squad and maximise the financial value of its players.
