The Rams thought they had a tight end back. Then Friday's practice changed their full plan. Terrance Ferguson, the 46th pick in the 2025 draft, will miss Sunday's Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders after hurting his hamstring on the practice field. He was already coming back from an ankle injury that has kept him on injured reserve since Week 3. LA opened his 21-day practice window this week and hopes were high. Now the team has to find another way to give Matthew Stafford more options.
Terrance Ferguson Injury Update: What Happened To Rams TE?
Stu Jackson of TheRams.com shared the change on X on November 6. He wrote: "The Rams' updated injury report now has TE Terrance Ferguson ruled out. Was originally listed on with an ankle injury, and based on the updated report, picked up a hamstring injury in practice today."
The news stung because of what Sean McVay had said earlier that day. "Do expect Myles [Garrett] and Terrance to play, barring any sort of setbacks," McVay told reporters on November 6. The setback came a few hours later.
Ferguson has seven catches for 63 yards and one touchdown this season. Those numbers are modest, but his frame (6-foot-5, 252 pounds) makes him a real threat down the seams. The Rams saw him as a third receiving option behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, who remains on IR after hamstring surgery.
Rams injury report for the Commanders game
Ferguson's absence lands on top of a long list. Trent McDuffie, Colby Parkinson and Kam Curl are questionable, and McDuffie did not practice at all. Grant Stuard and Jordan Whittington are also questionable, and Joe Cardona is doubtful. Jaylen Watson is out and heads to IR, which ends his season.
Parkinson's status carries the most weight for the offense. If he cannot play, Tyler Higbee becomes the lead TE and the Rams may have fewer ways to attack the middle of the field. Higbee and Parkinson have already picked up the slack while Ferguson was out.
There is one clear positive. Garrett is expected to play, so he and Aaron Donald should line up together on the defensive line. That gives the Rams a strong pass rush against a Washington offense that will also be thin at receiver.
Ferguson's practice window stays open for now, so a return in the coming weeks is still possible if the hamstring heals. Until then, the Rams will lean on their veterans and hope the defense can carry the load.
