UCL: We Showed Our Level Against Barcelona — PSG Coach Enrique

Translate

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique has said his players showed their level in their Champions League win against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Barcelona were handed their first defeat of the season as they lost 4-2 to PSG in a Champions League classic.

In a game that saw a total of 40 attempts on goal, it was the reigning European champions who were able to outgun the visitors in a contender for match of the season.

The pair traded goals, with Desire Doue’s strike and Lucas Hernandez’s header each being cancelled out courtesy of youngster Xavi Espart and the irrepressible Lamine Yamal.

Seconds after Barca’s number 10 leveled things for a second time, Vitinha restored PSG’s lead as Barcelona ran out of gas.

Fabian Ruiz put the icing on the cake five minutes later with a tap-in as Hansi Flick side tasted defeat for the first time in 12 games this season.

Reflecting on the win, Enrique said on PSG website:”What an atmosphere! The tifos from our fans were – once again – unbelievable. I think we witnessed two teams playing incredible football, such attacking football. We showed our level.

“It was a very competitive match; I think our first half was exceptional before we struggled in the first 15 minutes of the second half. It was hard to keep control of the game, but then we were able to create more scoring chances and win the match. It’s only three more points, but it’s always positive to defeat such a quality side.”

Enrique added:”You always have to overcome difficult periods in games, especially against opponents of this calibre. That’s what happened last year against opposition like Arsenal and Bayern: there are times when the opposition has the answers and you have to defend deep. That’s not our objective, but we overcame it tonight.

“The players that came off the bench were excellent and gave us a real boost. We are very happy. Now we have to keep going.”
