SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The special public holiday on October 25 in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the 25-year reign of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, must be observed by private-sector employers in Selangor who have chosen it as one of their paid public holidays.
The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) said employers who designate Sunday as a rest day must provide a replacement paid public holiday on October 26 (Monday), in accordance with Section 60D(1) of the Employment Act 1955.
“Alternatively, with the agreement of their employees, employers may replace the paid public holiday with another day, in accordance with the Act,” it said in a statement today.
The department said the special public holiday was declared under subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 [Act 369], which allows the state government to declare any day as a public holiday in the state.
On September 11, the Selangor state government announced October 26 as a replacement public holiday for the entire state following the declaration of October 25 as a special public holiday in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration.
Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the replacement holiday was declared because the celebration and the special public holiday fell on a Sunday. — Bernama
