DPWH: Stolen expansion joint parts caused Magallanes Flyover debris
.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday said falling debris along the southbound portion of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) Magallanes Flyover in Makati City was caused by stolen expansion joint parts.

In an advisory, the DPWH said the theft of critical expansion joint parts damaged the bridge structure, causing debris to fall.

The DPWH said it installed safety nets and temporary steel plates to protect motorists.

Repair works on the southern portion of the Magallanes Flyover will begin from Aug. 21 to 23, weather permitting, the agency said.

“The DPWH will strive to complete the repair works according to the set schedule. We ask for everyone’s understanding and cooperation as the agency continues with the repairs,” it added. /mcm
