All The Evidence King Ghidorah Will Be Created By The Humans In Godzilla Minus Zero

There are multiple signs in the Godzilla Minus Zero trailer that humanity will be responsible for the creation of King Ghidorah. Of course, such a reveal runs contrary to most interpretations of Ghidorah's origin story. Traditionally, Ghidorah is perceived as an evil invader from a faraway planet.

The notion that Ghidorah is an alien kaiju is as old as the creature himself; he was introduced as an extraterrestrial monster under the control of aliens in his debut film, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. His three subsequent appearances in the Showa era were consistent with that understanding of the character. His reintroduction into the franchise in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah played with his origins a bit, but still defined him as a creature who hailed from outer space.

Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack changed Ghidorah into an ancient defender of Earth, making it the most unusual take on the iconic villain to date. When he was famously tackled by the Monsterverse in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Ghidorah's roots as an alien were appropriated used as the basis of the big twist were Ghidorah defies the natural order to terraform the Earth in his image.

Because his alien origins are an intrinsic part of the character, it stood to reason that if Godzilla Minus One's sequel were to feature him as the villain, it would head in a similar direction. Admittedly, that might still be the case. However, there are some moments in the full trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero that suggest it may have a completely different origin story planned for the three-headed dragon.

More specifically, it's possible that the human protagonists of Godzilla Minus Zero, in their desperation to rid themselves of Godzilla forever, will find a way to bring Ghidorah to life themselves.

Operation Narukami

The footage includes a shot of returning Minus One character Kenji Noda (Hidetaka Yoshioka) standing aboard a ship and yelling out the command, "Commence Operation Narukami." The name of the operation calls into question the nature of the mission, as "Narukami" is one name for Raijin, a god who controls thunder, storms, and lightning in Shinto mythology. Based on that context, it's no question that Operation Narukami has something to do with King Ghidorah.

One interpretation of that is that the purpose of it is just to kill Ghidorah. But since it's named directly after him, there's cause to wonder if Operation Narukami is instead a plan to use Ghidorah to defeat Godzilla. The shot of gravity beams on the ground in the trailer indicate Ghidorah will wreak havoc on civilization, but it's not implausible that he was sent against Godzilla first, before things went awry.

"Fight Fire With Fire"

The idea of Ghidorah being a weapon of humanity isn't completely unprecedented in Godzilla lore. In Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah's ending, the Japanese government took the remains of King Ghidorah - following his death at Godzilla's hands - and transformed him with cybernetic parts to create Mecha-King Ghidorah, whom they deployed into battle against Godzilla.

Going hand-in-hand with the theory that Operation Narukami relates to a plan to weaponize King Ghidorah is the trailer's use of the new character, Kanji Murakami (Min Tanaka). Characters in the trailer appear to be discussing Godzilla's return when Min Tanaka's character can be heard saying the phrase, "fight fire with fire."

Since he's presumably talking about defeating a kaiju (whether it's Godzilla or Ghidorah), it's fair to assume that "fight fire with fire" translates to pitting one monster against another monster.

The identity of the character making this suggestion is especially relevant, as Toho has officially described Kanji Murakami as a biologist. This obviously bolsters the theory that humans will use science to create their own monster in an effort to eliminate Godzilla for good. Taking that course would make sense, considering that killing him themselves wasn't a permanent end to Godzilla's life.

Godzilla's DNA Sample

Shown at the same time that the "fight fire with fire" quote is heard is a quick glimpse at a glass case containing a piece of one of Godzilla's dorsal fins. This signals that whatever the military's plan is, it pertains in some way to organic material from Godzilla's body. Based on that, it could be concluded that the humans intend to use Godzilla's radioactive DNA to mutate a different creature, thus creating their own unique kaiju.

How they would go about this is unclear, however. There are monsters in the Godzilla universe linked to his DNA and therefore share some of his properties, like Biollante and Orga, but Ghidorah and Godzilla are worlds apart in terms of their abilities and powers. With that in mind, they may use a dinosaur or reptile with physical attributes similar to Ghidorah and infect it with Godzilla's DNA to cause a mutation.

That scenario too would have its roots in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. In the movie, Ghidorah was created when an alien race partnered with humanity to erase Godzilla from existence. The human characters accidentally created Ghidorah by paving the way for the aliens to replace Godzilla in the timestream with tiny alien creatures called Dorats. Absorbing the radiation destined for Godzilla transformed them into a single entity - King Ghidorah.

"Another Moral Boundary Mankind Should Not Cross"

If the characters were to consider genetically engineering a kaiju to fight Godzilla, it's hard to imagine this being a plan that they would heartedly embrace. It's a move that would take humanity into unchartered territory, using science in such a way that would risk the destruction of all of civilization. The mood that would come with a dilemma of its kind matches up well with one of the lines spoken at the end of the trailer, which was "another moral boundary mankind should not cross."

The first "moral boundary" could refer to when the United States performed the nuclear tests that ultimately gave birth to Godzilla. The Japanese government would most assuredly be crossing another in Godzilla Minus Zero if it willfully creates a second monster possessing equal or greater power to the one that nearly laid waste to Japan.
