Indonesia pushes 3 priority agendas to strengthen digital sovereignty

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Indonesia's digital sovereignty by ensuring the effective implementation of three priority state agendas.

This move is aligned with the 81st Indonesian Independence Day theme: "A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia."

Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, the ministry's Secretary-General Ismail emphasized that the commitment is crucial because, in the digital era, national sovereignty is increasingly defined by a country's ability to control and secure its digital space, extending well beyond traditional physical borders.

“Today's sovereignty is defined by our national capability to manage infrastructure, safeguard data, advance technology, maintain the information space, and ensure that the public truly benefits from digital transformation,” he said.

The three priority agendas comprise the development of the National Data Center (PDN), combating online gambling, and protecting children online.

Regarding data center development, the ministry continues to strengthen inter-agency collaboration to maximize the use of the National Data Center and facilitate data integration, paving the way for more accessible digital public services.

One example of successful data integration is the digitization of social protection programs (Perlinsos), enabled by the ministry's Government Service Bus (SPLP).

In combating online gambling, the ministry remains committed to dismantling the gambling ecosystem. Approximately 3.7 million online gambling sites and content items were taken down between October 20, 2024, and July 12, 2026.

In addition, 32,500 bank accounts affiliated with online gambling activities have been closed to disrupt financial flows within the gambling ecosystem.

The third agenda, child protection, is being pursued through strict enforcement of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas), which aims to create a safe, secure, and healthy digital environment for children.

As of July 2026, digital platforms operating in Indonesia had deactivated around 4.7 million accounts belonging to minors in compliance with the regulation, as part of efforts to create a safer online environment for children's development.

In addition, more than 204 platforms had submitted self-assessment risk profiles to the government.

Ismail emphasized that all these strategic measures are aligned with the ministry's 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which is built on three pillars: Connected, Growing, and Protected.

“These three pillars serve as the promise of digital independence, driving the vision of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” he said.
