The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction will take place in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28.

A total of 150 players, including 122 Indians and 28 overseas players, will go under the hammer for 27 available slots.

Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu will enter the auction as the oldest player. The 36-year-old has a reserve price of Rs. 30 lakh and has featured in only one season of the WPL so far.

In 2024, UP Warriorz signed Athapaththu as a replacement for England’s Lauren Bell. She played four matches, scoring 28 runs and taking four wickets.

Athapaththu was retained for the 2025 season but did not feature in a single match. She left midway through the tournament to join Sri Lanka’s white-ball tour of New Zealand.

She was subsequently released ahead of the 2026 season and went unsold at that year’s mega-auction. Athapaththu remains the only Sri Lankan player to feature in the WPL.

A return to UP Warriorz is a possibility, with the franchise entering the auction with the biggest purse and the most slots to fill.
