Orengo Condemns Attack on Kalonzo’s Team in Migori

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 6 – Siaya Governor James Orengo has condemned violence directed at Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and his team in Migori County, warning that such incidents threaten democratic processes ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Orengo said violence and democracy were incompatible, expressing concern over the incident involving the former Vice President and his delegation.

“Democracy and violence cannot coexist. I condemn in the strongest terms the violence meted against Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and his team in Migori (a beautiful county). These are terrible signals as the countdown begins for the 2027 elections,” Orengo stated.

The governor’s remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the August 2027 General Election, with leaders increasingly engaging in political mobilisation across the country.

Orengo’s statement adds to concerns over political violence and the security of political leaders and their supporters during public engagements as the country approaches the next electoral cycle.

Orengo’s condemnation followed an incident on Thursday, November 5, when a group of suspected attackers disrupted the opposition delegation’s political engagements in Migori Town.

The group reportedly pelted the leaders’ convoy with stones, damaging several vehicles, including one belonging to former Attorney-General Justin Muturi, whose windscreen was smashed. Police also deployed teargas during the confrontation. People Daily+2

Kalonzo, who was accompanied by Muturi, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and other opposition leaders, maintained that the incident would not deter the opposition from continuing its political mobilisation.

Muturi also condemned the attack and called for accountability, alleging that Suna East MP Junet Mohammed was behind the group that disrupted their meeting. The allegation has not been independently established. People Daily+1

The Migori incident has renewed concerns over political intolerance and the safety of opposition leaders as parties and political movements intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
