Tinashe Drops 2 New Songs That Show Her Range From Upcoming Album ‘Popstar’: Listen

Tinashe has a song for whatever mood you’re in. The singer-songwriter released two new tracks, “Pillow Fight” and “I’d Rather Be Alone,” on Thursday (Sept. 10) giving fans another preview of her upcoming album, Popstar, due Sept. 25. And because apparently two new songs weren’t enough, Tinashe also revealed that she’ll be joining Harry Styles for two Phoenix dates next spring.

“Pillow Fight” is a playful R&B cut that leans into the flirtier side of Tinashe’s sound. The singer also dropped a music video for the track, directed by Zac Wiesel, whose previous work includes visuals for Megan Thee Stallion and Audrey Nuna.

Then there’s “I’d Rather Be Alone,” which heads in a very different direction. Where “Pillow Fight” is all chemistry and fun, the new ballad taps into the aftermath of a relationship, giving Tinashe room to show off the R&B side of her artistry from a more vulnerable side.

The pair joins “Melatonin,” “Crash Out” and “Too Easy” as previously released songs from Popstar. The album is shaping up to be another genre-hopping entry in Tinashe’s catalog, with the singer moving between dance, pop and R&B without sounding solely interested in picking just one lane.

And Tinashe’s calendar is getting even busier. As announced earlier on Thursday, she’ll open for Harry Styles during two stops on his Together, Together Tour at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix on April 2 and 3. Tickets go on general sale Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. local time.

Those shows will come just months after Tinashe takes Popstar to the stage herself. Her previously announced headlining shows in Chicago, Brooklyn and Los Angeles will mark the first time she performs the new album live.

The momentum behind Popstar also follows a strong run for Tinashe. Her 2024 hit “Nasty” became one of that summer’s defining songs and helped push the singer back into the center of pop conversation, reaching a peak of No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100. “No Broke Boys,” her collaboration with Disco Lines from Quantum Baby, also charted on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart at No. 1.
