After six months away from the spotlight, the most hilarious show on the Internet has finally returned for a new season, which means we've got several months of sidesplitting comedy coming our way. Monday night saw Dropout TV (formerly CollegeHumor) release the first episode of Make Some Noise since May 11th, bringing the beloved Noise Boys back together with host and CEO Sam Reich as they kick off a brand-new season of shenanigans.
Dropout has become one of the premiere destinations for comedy over the last few years, thanks in large part to flagship comedy competition, Game Changer, and its acclaimed spin-off series, Make Some Noise. The original "Make Some Noise" episode of Game Changer featured the trio Brennan Lee Mulligan, Zac Oyama, and Josh Ruben, who have since become known as the Noise Boys, and that group has appeared in the premiere and finale of every Make Some Noise season, and this new episode is no exception. The Noise Boys kick off Make Some Noise Season 5 in hilarious fashion, setting the table for what should be a great season ahead.
New 'Make Some Noise' Episodes on Dropout
In an era of binge release strategies and shorter seasons, Make Some Noise is a breath of fresh air for TV fans. Not only does it contain great comedy from a company that's working to better the entertainment industry for everyone, but it's also a show that delivers lengthy seasons of episodic releases. A new episode of the improv comedy show debuts on Dropout's streaming service every other week, with the season lasting for the better part of six months. The previous three seasons of the series consisted of 16–20 episodes each, giving fans a lot to watch through.
Dropout hasn't announced how many episodes of Make Some Noise will make up the show's fifth season, but fans do have a good idea of the new installment's star-studded comedic lineup. The trailer for the season confirmed that Season 5 will include appearances from Dropout mainstays like Vic Michaelis (who missed out on Season 4 because of scheduling), Jacob Wysocki, Ross Bryant, Ally Beardsley, Lou Wilson, Jess McKenna, Anna Garcia, Jiavani, and Lisa Gilroy. Other notable additions to the season's roster include Pete Holmes, Paul F. Thompkins, Ben Schwartz, Jordan Myrick, Gil Ozeri, and Jeremy Culhane. Yes, a few of those "notable additions" could also be classified as "Dropout Mainstays" at this point, but that's just how deep the Dropout roster is.
What Is 'Make Some Noise'?
If you haven't watched before, or aren't too familiar with Dropout, Make Some Noise is a series centered around improvisational comedy. Most Dropout shows revolve around improv, but Make Some Noise has emerged as one of the most popular. While other Dropout shows have a more defined objective or tone (Very Important People, Um, Actually), Make Some Noise covers a lot of ground with its variety of prompts and contestants.
It's basically a new version of Whose Line Is it Anyway?, though Make Some Noise does a ton to separate itself from the Drew Carey-hosted series that so many of us grew up watching. It's worth noting, however, that Whose Line star Wayne Brady has appeared on Make Some Noise, and fingers everywhere remain crossed for a Colin Mochrie appearance.
Each episode of Make Some Noise sees three comedians brought out to their podiums on the Dropout stage, and they are given a series of improvisational prompts that they have never seen before (isn't that right, players?). The game consists of three rounds of prompts with some mini games sprinkled throughout. The first round features the contestants taking on solo prompts, while round two puts them into teams of two, and round three consists of prompts for all three players together. The players get points for each response, but the points are just nonsense numbers that Reich makes up, usually connected in some way to the prompt itself. In true Whose Line fashion, everything is made up and the points don't matter one bit.
For the past four years, Make Some Noise has stood out as one of the funniest shows anywhere on TV, and the Season 5 premiere indicates that won't be changing any time soon.
