Frosinone warning: ‘Ghedjemis must win back his place’ after transfer dispute

Frosinone coach Massimiliano Alvini warns Fares Ghedjemis needs to ‘win back his place’ in the squad after trying to force a transfer amid Monaco, Besiktas and Celtic interest.
The winger had been one of the main reasons that the Canarini secured promotion from Serie B last season, finishing second behind Venezia.
The two teams went head-to-head this afternoon in a thriller, which saw Frosinone emerge 3-2 winners thanks to a late Giorgi Kvernadze goal.
“It was a deserved victory, at the end of a strong performance,” Alvini told Sky Sport Italia.
“We played very well for 60 minutes, then stopped doing certain things and allowed Venezia back into the game. However, we showed the character to get back and win it, so I congratulate the team.
“I think we stopped defending well because we went too deep, but when we resumed playing our kind of football, we deservedly got the three points.”
Ghedjemis had been frozen out for the first two Serie A matches of the season, as he was pushing to leave Frosinone for a new adventure.
There were offers from AS Monaco, Besiktas, Celtic and Rangers, but nobody close to the €17m plus add-ons asking price.
Now that the transfer window has closed, the Algeria international has been welcomed back into the fold as a substitute.
“Ghedjemis has to keep training hard to win back his place in the team,” warned Alvini.
“I am glad that the crowd showed him affection today, especially as it is his birthday.”
The 24-year-old came on for the final 33 minutes plus added time.
