Marvel Officially Unveils New Doctor Doom And Fantastic Four Team-Up In Cosmic Invasion

Hot off the heels of New York Comic Con 2026, Marvel is now only a couple of months away from the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most epic ensemble blockbuster since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. And while Marvel Rivals has committed to a roadmap celebrating the MCU’s Avengers movies, so too will Marvel Cosmic Invasion be indulging in a bit of synergy in time for the holiday season and Avengers: Doomsday.
However, it’s doing so far more subtly. So subtle, in fact, that it may merely be coincidental that Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Doctor Doom DLC update is arriving when it is, though Doctor Doom in general is a bit out of place in a side-scrolling beat-’em-up that’s supposed to be centered around cosmic, space-faring characters in Marvel lore. Regardless, the two newest characters associated with this update have finally been revealed.
As per Twitter/X, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has unveiled the two playable characters who will be added in the game’s upcoming DLC update: the Fantastic Four’s “greatest adversary,” Doctor Doom, and the Fantastic Four’s “most powerful member,” Invisible Woman. The teaser depicts Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman in Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s beautiful cinematic art style before illustrating what their gameplay looks like in-game.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s The Siege of Castle Doom launches for free on November 10. There are currently no details concerning whether additional DLC updates are in development, though it’s certainly the kind of game that could serve to benefit from endlessly adding iconic Marvel characters and colorways, bosses and stages, and DLC updates with creative game modes or story chapters.
It’s rather surprising that we’ll actually be able to play as Doctor Doom. When the character was previously teased in association with Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Siege of Castle Doom DLC, the likeliest bet was that he’d appear solely as a boss at the end of the new game mode, which has yet to be revealed. It’s still possible that he could appear as a boss as well—Venom is both a playable character and a boss in the story campaign, of course—but it’s a terrific surprise that he’ll be playable.
Doctor Doom will be quite lonely when he joins a playable character roster that features no other villains (Venom was once a villain, sure, but he’s been an antihero at most in Marvel lore for more than three decades), and perhaps this is Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s way of teasing that more will be on the way. Meanwhile, Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Fantastic Four roster now includes Thing and Invisible Woman, and it would be great to see Mr. Fantastic and Human Torch accompany them via future DLC updates. Exciting times.
