Yellowstone Will Officially Return To Its Most Iconic Location In 2026

Grant Hermanns is a TV News Editor, Interview Host and Reviewer for ScreenRant, having joined the team in early 2021. He got his start in the industry with Moviepilot, followed by working at ComingSoon.net. When not indulging in his love of film/TV, Grant is making his way through his gaming backlog and exploring the world of Dungeons & Dragons with friends.

EXCLUSIVE: After being notably absent from season 1, Spencer Hudnut says an iconic Yellowstone location is coming back for Marshals season 2.

The next chapter of the Taylor Sheridan co-created universe will see Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton immediately facing one of his most harrowing challenges yet when his son, Brecken Merrill's Tate, is kidnapped by the power-hungry Tom Weaver. Meanwhile, his team will be racing to determine who is behind the ambush on Logan Marshall-Green's Cal and Arielle Kebbell's Belle, as Gil Birmingham's Rainwater also sets about trying to save the Broken Rock territory from a mine being opened on the land.

Ahead of season 2's October 4 premiere, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Spencer Hudnut to discuss Marshals season 2. When asked about the potential for the show to return to the main camp owned by Kevin Costner's John Dutton III, the showrunner confirmed that Kayce and Tate will "find themselves back on their family's land" in episode 2 of the Yellowstone spinoff's return, while also affirming that with "Rainwater now overseeing the Dutton land" after the mainline show's finale, it will "always be an element of this show":

Spencer Hudnut: I think Kayce, obviously, is painfully aware of the history of that land, and it isn't always a positive history, so I think we'll see he's going to put his East Camp land to good use this season in a way that I think is maybe trying to right some of the wrongs of the past that the Dutton family has exploited that land for.

Ever since the Yellowstone series finale saw Kayce sell the main camp for a symbolic $1.25 per acre to the Broken Rock, questions have swirled among franchise fans as to whether any of the spinoffs would return to the Chief Joseph Ranch that housed John's sprawling log mansion. Star and creative consultant Mo Brings Plenty previously teased to ScreenRant that Marshals could feature the iconic location at some point, given the wealth of story material there.

Kayce in Marshals season 2 CBS

Hudnut's confirmation that Marshals season 2 will feature the main camp in some capacity marks a surprising turn for the series, given Kayce seemed so intent on leaving the area behind. The first images and trailers have confirmed that, at the bare minimum, the Dutton family graveyard will make an appearance at some point, as Tate can be seen visiting the grave.

As for why, and how much of the land will be featured, it remains unclear, but considering the show still shoots in the same area, it may just be the start of its return. Hudnut also teased to ScreenRant that Marshals season 2 is going to feature a much heavier showing of Rainwater and Mo fighting the legal side of the mining operation attempting to make a stake on Broken Rock's land, and while season 1 saw most of these conversations held at his office, he could start taking meetings at the log cabin much like his Yellowstone predecessor.

One of the other major takeaways from Hudnut's latest comments is that Marshals season 2 is going to follow Kayce attempting to bring a new legacy to his family's ranching name with East Camp. Considering season 1 left off with Tom Weaver pulling multiple strings in an attempt to acquire ownership of it, this could point to the fight extending well beyond the season premiere, or involving others looking to give another Dutton a fight to protect their home.

Marshals season 2 premieres on CBS on October 4 at 8:30 p.m. EST.
