World Record Alert: Arshdeep Singh Joins Ex-GT Pacer In Elite T20I List

Pacer Arshdeep Singh scripted a world record on Tuesday following India's six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third T20I at Hnry Stadium, Wellington. Arshdeep claimed one wicket in his four-over spell while conceding 33 runs, helping India restrict the hosts to 198/3 in 20 overs. With that dismissal, Arshdeep took his tally to 39 wickets in 30 T20I matches in 2026. He now holds the record for the joint-most wickets by a bowler from a Full Member nation in a single calendar year in T20Is, equalling Ireland and former Gujarat Titans pacer Joshua Little, who also picked up 39 wickets in 2022.
Ever since making his international debut in 2022, Arshdeep has been a key figure in India's bowling attack. The left-arm pacer has featured in 102 T20Is, taking 149 wickets and is now just one wicket away from the 150-wicket milestone. He is also India's leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket.
In the ongoing five-match series against New Zealand, Arshdeep has claimed four wickets in three matches. He picked up one wicket in the opening game, followed by two wickets in the second match and one more in the third.
Talking about the match, Abhishek Sharma scythed through a hapless New Zealand attack to cause a carnage that made even Vaibhav Sooryavanshi look like a bystander at times as India cantered to a series-clinching six-wicket win in the third T20I on Tuesday.
The world's top ranked T20 batter smashed an incredible 113 off 38 balls, including a 15-ball half-century, as India made a mockery of what seemed like a tricky 199-run target. The visitors reached the finishing mark in a ridiculous 13.2 overs.
Abhishek's century was completed in 35 balls and he struck his now famous meditation pose to celebrate even as the opposition team and the spectators were left dazed by his power-hitting.
India thus completed a hat-trick of T20I series wins on New Zealand soil, having won 5-0 and 1-0 in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi was no less ruthless, scoring 45 off 18 balls but was overshadowed by Abhishek as India created the world record for the fastest team 100 in five overs and the highest ever power-play score of 118.
