Haze improves, 4 Sarawak areas record unhealthy API

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Haze conditions are improving, with only four areas in Sarawak recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today.

The Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index Management System showed Serian recording an unhealthy API reading of 180, while Samarahan and Kuching each recorded 168 and Sri Aman recorded 165.

Of the 68 API monitoring stations nationwide, four recorded unhealthy readings (101-200), while 61 recorded moderate readings (51-100) and three recorded good readings (0-50).

No stations recorded very unhealthy or hazardous readings.

The improvement was driven by rain in several states.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast heavy rain in several areas around the Klang Valley in the afternoon.

In Sarawak, rain is also forecast in Kuching, Miri and Serian, in the morning and afternoon.

Residents in affected areas are advised to limit outdoor activities, wear face masks when outdoors and drink enough water to reduce the health effects of poor air quality.
