Schmeichel: Replacing Carrick Won’t Solve Man United Crisis
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has launched a scathing attack on the club’s hierarchy, insisting that replacing Michael Carrick will achieve nothing until deep-rooted problems at board level are addressed.
Should Carrick be relieved of his duties, he would become the seventh permanent manager to depart Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. In the 13 years following Ferguson’s exit, the club has managed just two EFL Cups, one FA Cup, and a single UEFA Europa League trophy.

Speaking on the ongoing instability, Schmeichel expressed exasperation with the club’s executive decision-making.
“It drives me crazy. Who are these people who say that ‘he’s a good manager’?” Schmeichel questioned. “We’ve tried everyone, it’s not about the managers. It’s about the leadership of the club.”

Addressing rumors linking Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to the role, the Great Dane argued that any new manager would fall victim to the same systemic failures.
“If we bring Eddie Howe in, what’s he going to do? He’s going to face exactly the same problems as Carrick with the same group of players,” Schmeichel added. “He might be able to inspire them over a short period. But, how are they going to challenge for a Premier League title? I don’t see there being any difference.”
