X-Men Announces Full Roster of Historic New Team

Marvel has officially introduced the full roster of a new team in X-Men lore, gathering together a group of impressively powerful mutants with the mission to change Marvel's timeline.

Usually, when someone travels back in time in X-Men lore, it's for heroic purposes, with mutant warriors Cable, Bishop, Rachel Summers and Rasputin IV all originally voyaging back to the present to avert a disastrous future.

Now, Marvel is flipping that theme on its head, as the ongoing Bishop miniseries introduces THE FINAL BROTHERHOOD...

Marvel Unveils Full Roster of the Final Brotherhood

Created by Saladin Ahmed, Reese Hannigan, Mario Santoro, Federica Mancin, Federico Blee, and Travis Lanham, Bishop follows the titular hero as he faces off against a new team of villains, known as the Final Brotherhood.

Each member of this new team has traveled back in time from a dystopian future, believing that Bishop's actions in the present will bring about their doomed timeline. Hunting Bishop down, the team have revealed themselves to be the descendants of the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, combining the powers of several of X-Men's most iconic antagonists.

Mirrormind (Descendant of Mystique and Mastermind)

The leader of the Final Brotherhood, Mirrormind is a master illusionist. Like Jason Wyngarde's Mastermind, Mirrormind is able to generate elaborate illusions, fooling all five senses while drawing on a victim's own memories and imagination. As a descendant of Mystique, Mirrormind is also a shapeshifter, making for the ultimate illusionist.

Like Mystique, Mirrormind is a skilled gunman with little regard for human life. In Bishop #3, he crashes a cruise ship into the Brooklyn docks, killing everyone aboard to set a trap for Bishop. Mirrormind is also the 'prophet' who claims to have foreseen Bishop's actions dooming the future.

Flamequake (Descendant of Pyro and Avalanche)

The descendant of Pyro and Avalanche, Flamequake can summon and control fire, as well as directing powerful seismic blasts. Bishop assesses Flamequake as a thrill-seeker who may believe Mirrormind's prophecy but is primarily interested in the adrenaline of violence.

Unlike her progenitor Pyro, Flamequake seems to be able to actually create flame rather than just directing it, and can merge her powers, unleashing a combined earthquake and flame blasts.

Flamequake holds her ancestors in almost holy reverence and consciously wears a combination of their costumes to honor them. She sincerely believes that killing Bishop will prevent the 'Age of Sentinels,' having been persuaded by Mirrormind's prophecy.

Flamequake has a violent hatred of the XSE (aka the X-Treme Sanctions Executive - Bishop's former team, and effectively the X-Men of the future), believing that they police mutants in the interests of humanity.

Skippingstone (Descendant of Toad and The Blob)

The descendant of the Blob and Toad, Skippingstone is the Final Brotherhood's hand-to-hand fighter. His connection to Toad gives him incredible agility and the ability to jump huge distances, while his connection to Blob grants him the ability to control his own mass.

Like Blob, Skippingstone is incredibly strong and durable, with Bishop saying his punches land like sledgehammers. However, his greatest skill is combining his powers - leaping into the air and then dropping on his enemies like an anvil.

Despite being the team's brawler, Skippingstone is particularly well-spoken, however Bishop alleges he's ultimately a bully who enjoys punching down on the weak.

The Heroes: Bishop and Shard

While the Final Brotherhood have traveled back in time to defeat Bishop, he doesn't have to confront them alone. His sister Shard has traveled back to protect him, arriving from an era before her tragic death. Bishop is stuck fighting for his life while also wrestling with the moral quandary of potentially warning his sister of her fate.

Bishop and Shard have similar powers. While Bishop can absorb most forms of energy and release them as concussive blasts (which are more directed and powerful when channeled through his custom firearm), Shard has a similar ability to absorb light. Those similar powers are a problem as the two turn against each other: Bishop #4 ends with the reveal that Shard was sent back in time to arrest Bishop and return him to the future.

While he may not be responsible for the 'Age of Sentinels,' Bishop HAS become a pivotal figure in the timestream and the XSE are demanding his removal. As the series barrels towards its final issue, Shard acts as the unofficial fourth member of the Final Brotherhood, as X-Men's latest spin-off pits Bishop against his sister, with the future seemingly in the balance.
