1 dead, 1 hurt in Taguig City shooting – police


MANILA, Philippines — A man was killed while another was wounded in a shooting in Taguig City on Monday morning, police said.
The shooting occurred around 5:50 a.m. on Aug. 17 along Pulong Kendi Street in Barangay Santa Ana, according to a police report.
It identified the victim who was killed as a 40-year-old family rider who resided in Barangay Bambang, Taguig City, and the wounded victim as a 21-year-old call center agent who resided in Barangay Santa Ana.

Meanwhile, the police report noted that a witness saw an unidentified male person wearing a black helmet, a motorcycle taxi sweatshirt and white pants perpetrating the shooting aboard a grey Honda Click motorcycle.
“Based on the witness’s account, he heard a single gunshot and subsequently saw the victim… lying on the ground. Another victim also sustained injuries during the incident,” the police report explained.
“The responding personnel immediately brought both victims to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for medical attention. However, [the first victim] was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician,” it added.
In a statement later on Monday, the Southern Police District (SPD) noted that police investigators were now reviewing security footage and conducting follow-up operations to identify and locate the suspect.

“The motive remains to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing. The SPD is utilizing all available investigative resources to identify and locate the suspect and ensure that appropriate charges are filed based on the evidence gathered,” it said.
“The SPD urges the public to refrain from speculating on the incident and to allow the proper authorities to establish the facts based on available evidence and verified information,” it added. /jpv
