Coronation Street's Kit Green's inner turmoil deepens in early ITVX release
Choosing not to disclose his stage three breast cancer diagnosis is weighing heavy on Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) shoulders in Coronation Street.
The story kicked off at the same time that the Winter clan realised they may carry the familial BRCA gene, following the passing of their estranged aunt, Celeste Butterfield (Frances Barber).
Carrying a familial BRCA (Breast Cancer) gene mutation means inheriting a harmful change in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes from a parent, which significantly raises your lifetime risk of developing certain cancers.
On learning of the plot, Roberts said: "I genuinely didn’t know that men could get breast cancer and I felt, to make it authentic, that Kit shouldn't know that men can get breast cancer either.
"Speaking to the charities and male survivors has been really insightful, lots of men don't know they can get this and, for Kit, it's that utter disbelief of how can this be?
"Not only for his age, but how can I have this as a bloke and who else in the family could be affected."
So far we've seen the character confide in Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who has been sworn to secrecy. With his relationship with Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) in tatters, Kit has made a series of reckless moves - including sleeping with her daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon).
Sister Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and mum Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) have shown concern for him, though he continues to dismiss their worries.
In today's episode, Kit attended another appointment at the hospital, with the consultant explaining their next steps.
The practitioner warned that the condition was incredibly serious – and there was still a risk of death.

Refusing to think about what may lie ahead, Kit went into work and was told by colleague DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) to investigate the murder of teenager Luke Cookson.
He snapped, saying that he was trying, and Lisa later took this back to Bernie.
While at the precinct, Kit raced after a lad, accusing him of murdering Luke. The lad's mates then ganged up on him, and hours later, Bernie noticed that he had two black eyes.
The family were gathering for a pizza night, and Bernie enthusiastically spoke about how she was thinking positively about her test results and how she assumed she didn't have the BRCA gene.
Kit sat silently on the other side of the table, masking his inner torment.
