LTO perpetually revokes license of taxi driver who allegedly sexually harassed passenger

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) imposed a lifetime ban on the license of a taxi driver after he reportedly sexually harassed a female passenger.

The taxi driver and operator were previously served a show cause order. The passenger alleged that after falling asleep during the trip, the driver failed to drop her off at the designated destination and instead brought her to a different location, where the driver allegedly sexually assaulted her.

“Sa isinagawang imbestigasyon at pagdinig ng Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), kinumpirma ng driver na siya ang nagmamaneho ng naturang taxi noong Setyembre 12, 2026, bandang alas-tres ng madaling-araw. Sa kanyang sinumpaang salaysay, inamin din ng driver na nagkaroon ng sekswal na aktibidad sa loob ng kanyang sasakyan,” the LTO said in a statement.

(In the investigation and hearing conducted by the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), the driver confirmed that he was driving the taxi on September 12, 2026, around 3:00 a.m. In his sworn statement, the driver also admitted that a sexual activity occurred inside his vehicle.)

Following its investigation, the LTO declared the driver unfit to operate a motor vehicle and held the operator liable for franchise violations and employing a discourteous driver.

A perpetual revocation on a license means the driver won't be able to apply for any type of driver’s license.

Meanwhile, the vehicle remains under alarm status as part of the LTO's corresponding action regarding the case.

"Hindi natin pinapalampas ang anumang uri ng pang-aabuso sa kalsada, lalo na kung sangkot ang mga pampasaherong sasakyan na may malaking pananagutan sa kaligtasan at kapakanan ng kanilang mga pasahero. Magsisilbing babala ito sa lahat ng driver at operator na huwag tularan ang ganitong uri ng pagkakamali,” said LTO chief Markus Lacanilao.

(We do not tolerate any form of abuse on the road, especially involving public utility vehicles that bear a significant responsibility for the safety and welfare of their passengers.
