Karnival Jom Heboh gives Miri economy, tourism a boost

MIRI: The Karnival Jom Heboh (KJH) 2026 has shown that large-scale events can boost the local economy while strengthening Miri's appeal as a tourist destination in Sarawak.

Sarawak Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said the thousands of visitors from Malaysia and neighbouring countries showed KJH's appeal as an event that draws people to Miri.

He said the event had a positive impact on the local economy by creating opportunities for traders, entrepreneurs and tourism industry players to increase their income.

He said KJH also provided an opportunity to promote the city as a destination with a wide range of attractions.

"This is not just about entertainment, but about how we can use events such as KJH to introduce Miri to more people.

"When people come to Miri, they do not just attend the concert, but also spend money, eat, stay in hotels and visit attractions around the city," he said in his speech at the Karnival Jom Heboh 2026 Segulai Sejalai Sarawak concert at Miri Boulevard last night.

Ting said the setting up of KJH in Miri after almost 19 years also showed that the event still had a large following, particularly among local entertainment fans.

"Let's not wait another 19 years to organise KJH in Miri.

"I hope KJH can return to Miri next year with more exciting and engaging programmes for visitors," he said.

KJH 2026 also featured various activities and programmes, including the participation of entrepreneurs who took the opportunity to introduce their products and services to visitors.

The highlight of last night's event was the KJH concert, which featured popular artistes including K.O.I, Mary Grace, Fieya Julia, Nabila Razali and Man Bai, who each delivered their performances.
