India began its FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Wales at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands on Saturday.
Skipper Harmanpreet Singh bagged a brace, while it was Sanjay who opened the Indian team’s account in the first quarter. All goals came from Penalty Corners.

For the Wales team, playing in just its second World Cup, it was Sam Welsh who got the ball over the line in the fourth quarter for a consolation goal.
Next up, India will face England at the same venue on Monday, August 17 in another Pool-D fixture.
