KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Police have pledged a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl who was believed to have been murdered at a school here on October 3.

Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation would be conducted comprehensively and professionally, with no attempt to cover up the case or protect any party.

“The investigation will be conducted comprehensively, transparently and professionally without any element of cover-up or protecting any party,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated by the Batu Pahat district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on October 3 and has been remanded for six days from October 4 to 9 to assist investigations.

A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail in Batu Pahat on October 4 found the cause of death to be blunt trauma to the head.

Police said the school and Education Ministry were cooperating fully with the investigation.

They also advised the public against speculation or comments that could interfere with the investigation or manipulate facts in a way that could cause public concern.
