South Sulawesi immigration checks foreigners in North Toraja

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - South Sulawesi immigration officials conducted joint checks at four hotels in North Toraja from October 29-31, finding no immigration violations among the foreign nationals monitored.
South Sulawesi Regional Immigration Chief Friece Sumolang praised the participation of all members of the Foreigners' Oversight Team, known as Timpora, in the operation, according to a statement issued here Tuesday.
"The operation aimed to strengthen monitoring of foreign nationals' presence and activities while improving coordination among relevant agencies," Friece said.
Participants included South Sulawesi offices of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), National Narcotics Agency (BNN), police and Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), plus provincial government and immigration units.
Before the operation, personnel attended a briefing led by Rachmad Ardiyanto, acting head of the regional immigration office's Supervision and Enforcement Division.
Rachmad assigned the personnel to two teams to inspect several hotels in North Toraja and urged them to act humanely while complying with immigration regulations.
The teams, including officers from the Parepare Immigration Office, visited four hotels: Hotel Indra Toraja, Toraja Heritage Hotel, Toraja Misiliana Hotel and Hotel Torsina Toraja.
After coordinating with hotel managers, officers obtained information on foreign nationals staying at several of the properties.
"The records showed 21 foreign nationals at Toraja Heritage Hotel, 12 nationals from France and Germany at Toraja Misiliana Hotel, and three at Hotel Torsina Toraja," Friece said.
Hotel Indra Toraja management reported that no foreign nationals were staying there during the inspection.
Officers also advised hotel managers to report foreign guests through the Foreigners Reporting Application (APOA).
The measure is intended to improve accommodation providers' compliance with immigration monitoring requirements.
The joint operation found no indications of immigration violations by the foreign nationals covered by the checks. The inspections proceeded smoothly, with hotel managers' cooperation.
The South Sulawesi immigration office said the operation was expected to strengthen coordination and information sharing among Timpora members, improving oversight of foreign nationals' presence and activities across the province.
