Louisa Jacobson Reacts to Sister Grace Gummer’s Love Story Role

Louisa Jacobson was blown away by that Grace Gummer performance, too.
While the Gilded Age actress was attending the Emmys 2026 to celebrate the series’ eight nominations, she couldn’t help but take a moment to praise her sister’s performance as Caroline Kennedy in Love Story.
“I’m so proud of my sister Grace Gummer for her work in Love Story,” Jacobson told E! News’ Keltie Knight during Live From E!: 2026 Emmys Sept. 14. “She’s phenomenal. So heartbreaking that scene in the last episode.” (To see everyone on the Emmys 2026 red carpet, click here.)
Indeed, the 35-year-old—youngest to parents Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, who also share Grace, 40, as well Henry Wolfe Gummer, 46, Mamie Gummer, 43—emphasized that the entire family was watching the Ryan Murphy series’ finale on the edge of their seats.
"We were all texting," Jacobson added. “Our family thread was popping off. Like, ‘Ugh. We’re so sad. That was really heartbreaking.’” (Love Story, inspired by Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr.'s romance earned six Emmy nominations. See every winner of the evening here.)
But while Jacobson said it was “really great” to be attending TV’s biggest night alongside her sister, she admitted that any potential project alongside Gummer and mom Streep isn’t coming any time soon.
“We’re just all living our beautiful, individual lives,” Jacobson added, noting her family had nothing but “plans to support each other.”
As for how Jacobson manages to channel her inner 19th century woman when it comes to playing Marian Brook in the HBO period drama? Costuming goes a long way.
“You’d think that the tight constraints would make it difficult but actually sometimes when you have a tight container, it allows you to be more expansive,” Jacobson detailed, “and certainly by season four that’s definitely the case.”

The Materialists alum admitted that a corset is actually her secret weapon on set.
“It’s a constrained time in history especially for women,” Jacobson explained, “so putting on the corset just helps me get into character and helps me ease into that world pretty smoothly.”
On the red carpet, though, Jacobson prefers to keep it in the 21st century, sporting a beautifully tailored black and white Tom Ford suit designed by Haider Ackermann.
“It’s beautiful,” Jacobson mused. “I love it.”
