Coronation Street announces shock return for Owen Armstrong after 11 years

Coronation Street bosses have announced that Owen Armstrong is making a shock return to the show.

Ian Puleston-Davies is reprising his role as the no-nonsense builder and will begin filming his comeback scenes next week.

Owen heads back to Weatherfield in January following Gary Windass's recent imprisonment for perverting the course of justice.

Still fiercely protective over his family, Owen wastes little time before having his say about Gary's actions – livid that his daughter Izzy's former partner has caused so much chaos.

As Owen is determined to help Izzy and her young son Jake, he announces that he's moving back to live with them. He bitterly blames Gary for their family's misfortunes – and isn't shy when it comes to voicing it!

It seems that Gary may be safer behind bars than dealing with Owen's disapproval, but what will Owen's reappearance mean for the future of Gary's business?

Speaking about his return, Ian commented: "I can't wait to pick up where I left off ten years ago! It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen's back and he's still angry!"

Coronation Street's producer Kate Brooks added: "We're thrilled that Ian is back and Owen brings a ton of drama.

"As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street, and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test. Needless to say, there's never a dull moment when Owen's around."

Owen was last seen on Coronation Street in April 2015 when his relationship with Anna Windass broke down and his business collapsed.

He initially went to Portugal but ultimately started a new life in Scotland.

In real life, Ian has starred in high-profile dramas like The Bay, D.I. Ray, The Responder and Silent Witness. He's also directed feature films and written his own projects.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
