Asia Rose Simpson vouches for power of sports, dance at Miss World 2026 pageant

The Philippines’ Asia Rose Simpson delivered an impassioned presentation of her advocacy work using sports and dance at the first round of the 2026 Miss World pageant’s “Head-to-Head” challenge with the delegates from Asia and Oceania.

Her group’s presentation was held on Monday morning, Aug. 24, in Nha Trang, Vietnam, where the international pageant is celebrating its 75th anniversary through its 73rd edition.

“As a dancer and gymnast myself, I have seen the power that movement has over your physical body, but not only that, your social, mental, and emotional capacity as well,” Simpson said when she discussed her SĒD (Sports and Dance) Initiatives.

This was the heart of her “Beauty with a Purpose” program which advocates for the physical, mental, and emotional health of today’s youth through physical movement as a form of expression or an avenue to build connections with others.

“Growing up, traveling internationally since I was six months old with my family’s nonprofit organization shaped my heart for service, and it was through outreaches to the widows, elderly, persons with disabilities, single mothers, and children that I learned the simple act of showing up for others creates lasting change,” Simpson said.

She also shared her multicultural background having a Filipino father and an American mother, and learning from her uncles and grandmother while growing up in the province.

As a homeschooled 18-year-old youth advocate, Simpson said dance has been a therapeutic activity for her whenever she felt lonely. Her contemporary dance routine had won for her the Talent Challenge at the national pageant in February.

“According to UNICEF, one in seven children worldwide experience mental health issues. Sports and dance are both universal languages. They speak without using words, but they are both powerful mediums in which anyone can use and will leave lasting positive impact on your overall well-being,” she said.

Since winning her local title as Miss World Quezon City in 2025, Simpson has been tapped by organizations and local government units to serve as an ambassador of various sports initiatives.

Her winnings had also made it possible for her to grant scholarships to children, and has developed a mental health curriculum that she hopes to pitch to the Department of Education.

“Throughout the years, I’ve been able to reach over 10,000 students worldwide, in the U.S. Vietnam, and places across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” Simpson shared.

“To me, pageantry has become a path to feet already walking, a reality to eyes who already saw a vision, and a megaphone to a voice already speaking. Because legacies are not built in only great leaps, but in quiet choices to rise, one moment and one choice to bring light into the world,” she added.

Simpson also shared the positive feedback her “Beauty with a Purpose” video received online. The video was uploaded on the Miss World YouTube channel.

“The impact of my #BWAP has touched so many lives already. I am so grateful for the opportunity to amplify my voice and for SĒD Initiative to impact people and help those who are struggling,” she said. 

“Our health is one thing we must never take for granted, whether that’s physical, emotional or mental health. Sports and dance are powerful tools that can create lasting impact on our overall well-being!” Simpson said when she shared the video.

The Head-to-Head Challenge and Beauty with a Project are “fast-tack” events whose winners gain automatic entry into the quarterfinals with the Top 40.

The winners of the two events, and the Multimedia and Top Model challenges, as well as the top delegate for the “People’s Choice” online poll, from each of the four regional groups will advance to the continental Top 10 that will make up the Top 40.

The public can help Simpson step closer to the crown by voting for her on the official Miss World voting portal for “People’s Choice,” and by engaging with her content on the Miss World app for the Multimedia challenge.It has been 13 years since Megan Young became the first Filipino woman to win the Miss World title at the 63rd edition of the pageant held in Indonesia in 2013, and Simpson hopes to duplicate her feat this year.

Reigning queen Opal Suchata Chuangsri, the first-ever winner from Thailand, will crown her successor who will be chosen from a field of 111 delegates from different countries and territories around the world.

The 2026 Miss World Festival will culminate at a coronation show in Nha Trang, Vietnam on Sept. 5. The ceremony will be streamed in real-time on the pageant’s official YouTube channel. /edv
